Washing machines

Washing machines are one of the most common sources of water damage in homes. This can be due to a variety of factors, including overloaded machines, leaks in hoses or fittings, clogs or damage in drain lines, or issues with the machine's internal components such as the drum of the machine.

Reduce the risks by loading the washing machine sensibly, regularly inspecting hoses and fittings, making sure drain lines are not clogged, installing a pan to catch leaks and spills, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts as soon as possible.

Dishwashers

Like washing machines, dishwashers are also common sources of water damage. Similarly, common issues include leaks in hoses or fittings, clogs in drain lines, or issues with internal components.

The suggestions we shared for the washing machine apply here as well. Regularly inspect hoses and replace if damaged or worn. Make sure the drain line is aligned and clear of debris. Ensure the door closes shut.

Refrigerators

While refrigerators are not typically associated with water damage, they can still cause problems if the ice maker or water dispenser is not properly installed or maintained. Refrigerators can also leak.

Regularly inspect the water line that supplies the ice maker or water dispenser for damage or wear, and make sure it is properly installed and free from kinks or obstructions. Ensure the refrigerator pan is in place and not cracked or damaged. Finally, turn off the water supply to the refrigerator when going on vacation or during extended periods of non-use.

Hot water heaters

Hot water heaters can cause significant damage if they leak or rupture. Common issues include internal component failure and sediment buildup, which can cause pressure to build up inside the tank.

Stay on top of routine water heater maintenance, and regularly inspect the hot water heater for leaks or rust. Discolored hot water can be a sign of a corroding water heater. Check the anode rods for rust and replace if overly corroded. Flush the water tank once or twice a year to remove sediment buildup and test the temperature & pressure relief valve often.

Address Water Damage ASAP!

The longer water sits, the more damage it can cause. If not addressed quickly, water damage can lead to mold growth, rotting of wood, and other structural damage, which can be costly and time-consuming to repair.

Therefore, it's essential to take immediate action to address any water damage and mitigate its effects without delay. Call Tidal Wave Restoration to have a specialist dispatched to your location as soon as possible!
